Upgrading a laptops processor is slightly more complicated than in a desktop PC, they tend to be harder to get to though it is far from impossible so I'm sure you won't have a problem there.

Unfortunately the QX9300 is a fairly old model CPU, are there any different processors that your laptop can take? I've found a couple on ebay however they are very expensive, by that I mean £400 buy it now price.

As for your question yesterday about upgrading to Windows 7 this is what you need : http://www.amazon.co.uk/Microsoft-Windows-Premium-Upgrade-Vista/dp/B002DGS81C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=software&qid=1273829827&sr=1-1

I'm not sure about the performance differences between Vista and Windows 7 while running games but it could be that Win 7 is more efficient (it is definitely faster with most things). Also you may want to try and stop any running processes that you don't need; lots of programs run in the background and could be using precious processing power.

Buy it now for £139 for the Q9100, unfortunately I haven't really been able to find the QX9300, at least not for any reasonable price!

Processor are always about 100% while you are in game : every processor.

With the new nvidia driver the game BF BC2 is able to use more than one core of a processor : now you have it.

Try Windows 7 : it really increase performance. My PC is 4 years old : i start with Windows XP, then Windows Vista and now Windows 7 64 bits.

About performance Windows 7 is the best one, then Windows XP and the worse is Windows Vista.

Changing processor yourself for a notebook isn't a good idea because it's difficult. Have you already do this ?

i never relised you were on a laptop mate, dont try the over clocking that i said to you last night the extra heat could kill it.

you will see an improvment on windows 7 mate gave my pc a breath of life in it.

I don't think you'll have much problems changing the processor, it just requires removing a few parts to get to it. Seeing as you've built a PC from scratch it won't be much of a problem.

As Captain briefly mentioned though, very few games currently take advantage of more than one core, some modern games are using 2 now but I have a quad core and I am yet to find a game that uses all four cores. Quad core will speed up general Windows things but won't affect games too much, increased clock speed would make the biggest difference.

I think its pretty much unanimous that you should first try Windows 7 because it is a lot more efficient than Vista and may make the difference that you need. If that doesn't work we can discuss where to go from there Smile

I stand corrected, it does seem that BC2 uses all four cores. I don't have any games that do this yet Sad

BC 2 use all core only if you have the good graphic card driver !!!

I couldn't believe this before i read it in NVIDIA release notes and test it.

Now Jemiol have the lastest driver for his notebook.

I am having similar problems with my game experience. After reading all this I will be upgrading to Windows 7 64 bit from XP.
I hope it makes a difference. Cheers guys. Good advice

Looking at the window 7 packages out there which one is best?

Windows 7 Ultimate
Windows 7 Home Premium
Windows 7 Professional

i know it comes down to what you want to use it for. Basicly I dont know what i want from it but I want the best but not stuff that is irrelevant to my use. Gamming, music, surfing, photos etc (Usual Basics). Any suggestions.

To be honest Home Premium would probably be fine.

Here is a list of the differences:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/compare/default.aspx

Unless you see something you really need on Professional or Ultimate, Home Premium will be fine.
